The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA Dr. Olugbenga Awe, has commissioned the newly refurbished Conference Hall of the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (SAAT), renovated by the former President of the University’s Alumni Association Dr Olaitan Adesomoju, describing the facility as a significant contribution to the development of the School and the University at large.
Speaking during the ceremony on Friday September 4, 2026 , Dr. Awe commended the leadership of SAAT and the donor Dr Adesomoju and other stakeholders whose collective efforts contributed to the successful completion of the project. He stressed the importance of modern infrastructure in creating an enabling environment for academic excellence and urged the School to ensure that the facility was properly maintained and effectively utilized for conferences, seminars, workshops, meetings and other programmes that would advance academic and professional development.
The donor , Dr. Olaitan Adesomoju, said the renovation, like past ones he has spearheaded, is not because he has abundant funds but from the burden of sacrificial giving and his well-entrenched culture of giving back to the school that produced him. He further said,” I encourage other members of the alumni association to also emulate this gesture and also do something for the upliftment of our alma mater. He stressed the importance of alumni involvement in the development of the University, noting that a strong partnership between the institution and its alumni could contribute meaningfully to infrastructural development and academic advancement.”
In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, congratulated SAAT and Dr Adesomoju who currently serves as the representative of the Alumni on the Council of the University, on the successful completion and commissioning of the project. Professor Oladiji urged the management and users of the facility to ensure its proper maintenance and sustainability. She also appreciated the contributions of the University Council, alumni and other stakeholders to the development of the institution, stressing that collective efforts remained vital to the continued growth and transformation of FUTA.
Earlier in his Welcome Address, the Dean of SAAT, Professor Olabode Adebayo, expressed appreciation to the University Management, Governing Council, alumni and other stakeholders for their support towards the realisation of the project. He said the Conference Hall would provide a conducive environment for academic and professional engagements within the School, adding that the facility would strengthen SAAT’s capacity for teaching, research, innovation and collaboration.
