Over 4,000 NDC members Defect To PDP Ahead Of 2027 Polls In Ebonyi

The Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi State has recorded a major political boost ahead of the 2027 general elections following the defection of top executives of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, including the party’s Deputy Chairman, Okechukwu Idenyi, and Secretary, Solomon Adum, alongside over 4,000 supporters.

The defectors were officially received into the PDP during a well-attended political rally held at Isu in Onicha Local Government Area of the state at the weekend. The event attracted party faithful, stakeholders and supporters who welcomed the new members into the opposition party.

Receiving the defectors, the Ebonyi State PDP Chairman, Chukwuma Igwe, described the mass movement as a significant milestone for the party, expressing confidence that the experience and grassroots influence of the new entrants would strengthen the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.

Igwe assured the former NDC members of equal opportunities within the PDP, urging them to work harmoniously with existing members to build a stronger and more united party capable of providing effective leadership for the people of Ebonyi State.

“We assure the defectors of equal opportunities within the party. We urge you to work collectively with existing members to advance the party’s objectives and provide a credible alternative for the people of Ebonyi in 2027,” Igwe said.»

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Solomon Adum said the decision to leave the NDC was based on their confidence in the PDP’s commitment to democratic governance, unity and sustainable development in Ebonyi State.

“Our decision was driven by our confidence in the PDP’s vision for democratic governance, unity and sustainable development in the state,” Adum stated.»

He further pledged the commitment of the defectors to strengthening the PDP at the grassroots, while promoting internal democracy, peaceful political participation and issue-based campaigns ahead of future elections.

“We pledge to work with the leadership of the PDP to expand the party’s grassroots support ahead of future political activities. We are committed to promoting peace, internal democracy and issue-based politics,” he added.»

Also addressing the gathering, the PDP’s candidate for Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency, Felix Igboke, welcomed the new members and urged them to remain committed to the party’s mission of reclaiming political leadership in the state. He expressed optimism that the PDP would emerge victorious in the 2027 general elections.

“PDP is the party that has built sustainability. The 2027 election is the time to work together to ensure that we win. I welcome all the defectors to the party, and I believe we will win come 2027. Ours is a moving train,” Igboke said.
