Soldiers have begun a massive Manhunt for the gunmen who killed a traditional ruler in Kwara State and abducted his Queen.
In an X post by the Kwara State Government in the early hours of Friday, the Kwara State Government revealed that the action was a form of rapid response to the dastardly act following a security meeting with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The post reads in full:
“After an emergency security briefing with the Kwara State Governor @RealAARahman CON tonight soldiers arrived at the palace of Olukoro of Koro in Ekiti Local Government to begin manhunt which will extend into the bush.
The Governor condemned the development, which he said was reckless, shocking, and abominable.
He has charged the security agencies not to spare any resources to track down the perpetrators, free the spouse and others taken away, and bring them to book.
The Governor also extends his profound condolences to the people of Koro and promised to stand by them at this time and always.
“We will certainly get the perpetrators and ensure that this is their last crime against humanity,” the Governor said.
The Police Command in Kwara State, had on Thursday in Ilorin confirmed the killing of a traditional ruler in the state, Oba Peter Aremu, the Onikoro of Koro-Ekiti in the Ekiti Local Government Area.
CSP Ejire Adeyemi-Tohun, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the state Police Command, confirmed this on Thursday in llorin.
She added that the king’s assailants also kidnapped his wife.
“The gunmen invaded the residence of the traditional ruler in the evening, killed him and went away with his wife,” the Police PRO said.
The Police spokesperson said some police personnel, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Koro-Ekiti, were already at the palace of the late traditional ruler.
“They have began investigations into the whereabouts of the killers, as well as the abductors of the late king’s wife,” she said.
