Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the appointment of Professor Badejo Ayodeji Olawunmi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).
The appointment was announced on Wednesday in a statement by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.
Professor Badejo, a scholar in Guidance and Counselling, succeeds Professor Ibijoke Olatunji-Bello, whose five-year tenure is coming to an end upon her retirement.
According to the statement, the new Vice-Chancellor was born on August 4, 1962. She obtained her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), as well as a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Guidance and Counselling from the same institution.
Her appointment places an academic with extensive experience in Guidance and Counselling at the helm of affairs of one of Nigeria’s prominent state-owned universities.
Omotoso stated that the appointment was approved by Governor Sanwo-Olu as Professor Badejo takes over from Professor Olatunji-Bello, who has served as Vice-Chancellor for five years.
The outgoing Vice-Chancellor’s tenure has coincided with a period of continued academic and institutional development at LASU.
The appointment of Professor Badejo is expected to usher in a new phase in the administration of the university as she assumes responsibility for its academic, administrative and strategic direction.
