The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has declared that no opposition presidential hopeful can rival the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in the South-East region.
Umahi made the remarks during an inspection tour of ongoing federal government projects in Ebonyi State alongside members of the Renewed Hope Media Team. He said the Tinubu administration had delivered unprecedented infrastructure projects across the South-East, making the President the preferred choice of the region ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to the minister, Ebonyi State is preparing to formally demonstrate its appreciation to the President. He revealed that Governor Francis Nwifuru would lead a statewide endorsement rally on Monday to adopt Tinubu as the state’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
“We are not voting for anybody else other than the President and the Governor because none of these presidential aspirants can do what Tinubu is doing for the people of the South-East,” Umahi said.
He argued that the South-East has, for the first time in decades, enjoyed a sense of inclusion in national development, stressing that the region’s longstanding demands for fairness and equity were being addressed under Tinubu’s administration.
“All we have fought for by our forefathers for inclusiveness, we have it now. We have President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and we should be very grateful to him,” the former Ebonyi governor stated.
Umahi also took a swipe at supporters of opposition parties in the state, insisting that Ebonyi would not repeat its previous voting pattern. “Ebonyi State is not obedient because we want to catch up with the rest of the country. What happened before was an accident of history and it will not repeat itself,” he said.
Speaking on infrastructure development, the minister expressed confidence that the N25 billion Onueke Flyover in Ezza South Local Government Area would be completed on or before December 2026. He described the project as one of several major federal investments currently underway in the state.
Managing Director of Age Link Group, Chief Enekwachi Akpa, whose company is handling the flyover project, disclosed that construction had progressed significantly despite the firm not yet receiving mobilisation funds. He added that residents of Ebonyi Central had embraced the project because of its expected economic benefits.
Also speaking during the tour, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (South-East), Chioma Nweze, described Tinubu’s administration as inclusive and development-oriented. She cited ongoing road projects linking Enugu, Onitsha, Owerri, Port Harcourt and Abakaliki, as well as the construction of the Ndibe Beach Bridge connecting Ebonyi and Cross River states, as evidence of the President’s commitment to the South-East. “We are going to vote for the President en masse. We are not going to vote for promises we have not seen; we are going to vote for promises that have been kept,” she said.
