The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has awarded a university scholarship to Obasi Victor Nnanna, the highest scorer in Ebonyi State in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), following his exceptional academic performance.
Nnanna, a student of King David Gifted Academy, Abakaliki, scored an impressive 356 marks in the examination, emerging as the best-performing candidate in Ebonyi State and ranking among the nation’s top scorers.
The scholarship offer came shortly after Umahi received the news of the student’s outstanding achievement from the management of the academy, a school he established during his tenure as Governor of Ebonyi State.
Expressing his delight on Thursday in Abakaliki the state capital, the former governor attributed the success to God’s grace and the commitment of the school to academic excellence.
“I give God the glory. I offer scholarship to this child,” Umahi said while reacting to the development.
According to Umahi,”the scholarship award is expected to cover the student’s university education and serves as further encouragement for young scholars across Ebonyi State to pursue academic excellence and strive for outstanding achievements. “
The beneficiary belongs to the pioneer set of King David Gifted Academy, an elite institution founded by Umahi in 2016 with the vision of providing world-class education and producing future leaders equipped to compete globally.
Recall that since its establishment, the academy has distinguished itself as a centre of excellence, consistently recording remarkable performances in national and international examinations and earning recognition across the country.
Education stakeholders have described Nnanna’s feat as a reflection of the quality of education being imparted at the institution, noting that the achievement reinforces the academy’s reputation as a breeding ground for exceptional talents.
