The Urhobo Renaissance Society (URS), a coalition of distinguished Urhobo professionals and intellectuals, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of His Royal Majesty, Barrister Emmanuel Bethel Otete Delekpe, Owhorhu I, the revered Ovie of Udu Kingdom.

URS described the departed Udu traditional ruler as a royal father who dedicated his life to the progress and development of the Udu Kingdom, adding that Udu witnessed rapid development and peace under his reign.

In a statement on Monday jointly signed by its President, Prof. Hope Eghagha, and General Secretary, Dr. John Uwa, URS commiserated with the royal family and the people of Udu Kingdom over the demise of their royal father.

The statement noted that the late monarch was a patriot and visionary leader who devoted his life to the service of humanity, the preservation of peace, promotion of cultural heritage and the advancement of the Udu Kingdom.

URS further acknowledged the tremendous impact of his reign, noting that his wisdom, compassion, and commitment to the welfare of his people left an indelible mark on the Urhobo Nation and Delta State as a whole.

“We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of His Royal Majesty,” the statement read, adding that, “He was a beacon of leadership and a unifying figure whose legacy will continue to resonate for generations to come.”

The URS extended heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the Udu Traditional Council, the people of Udu Kingdom, and the wider Urhobo and Delta communities.

“As the Kingdom prepares for the rites of passage, we offer our prayers and unwavering support. Though this marks the end of a remarkable era, it also signals the dawn of new beginnings inspired by the values His Majesty upheld”, the statement added.
