PGF Denies Reports Of Uzodimma’s Removal As Chairman

The Progressive Governors Forum has denied reports claiming that Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, was removed as chairman. It described the claim as “false and misleading.”

In a statement Thursday, PGF Director General Folorunso Aluko said no meeting was held to take such a decision and that Uzodimma remains the forum’s chairman.

“The attention of the Progressive Governors Forum has been drawn to a false and misleading report circulating in some media platforms alleging the removal of its Chairman, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON,” Aluko said.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Progressive Governors Forum states categorically that the report is entirely false, baseless, and without an iota of truth.”

The forum said its secretariat has no record of any resolution removing the Imo governor from office.

“The PGF secretariat has no record of, and is not aware of, any resolution removing the Chairman. His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, remains the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum,” the statement read.

The PGF added that it remains united and focused on its responsibilities, and urged the public and media to disregard the report.

Uzodimma has served as chairman of the forum, which comprises governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Uzodimma was, however, reportedly removed on Thursday after a vote of no confidence was allegedly passed in him by his colleagues in the PGF.

The development came barely hours after Uzodimma spoke on behalf of APC governors during the submission of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Nomination and Expression of Interest forms in Abuja, on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

The decision was reportedly reached during an extraordinary meeting of about 20 APC governors held Thursday night at the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

Governors from several states, including Ogun, Bayelsa, and Enugu, were reportedly in attendance at the high-level meeting.

Six of the governors who attended the meeting reportedly joined by Zoom.

The forum reportedly penciled down possible replacements, with the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, at the top of the list.
