Atiku Names El Rufai As Deputy Chair Of Campaign Council

Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has unveiled his Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general election, appointing former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as Deputy Chairman.

The campaign council will be chaired by Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, while Senator Austin Akobundu was named Director-General and Campaign Manager. The appointments were announced on Thursday by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communications of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Council.
El-Rufai, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and two-term governor of Kaduna State, is expected to play a key role in political coordination and engagement with stakeholders across the country.
According to the campaign structure released by the council, Akobundu will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the campaign and implementation of its strategies.
The council comprises six operational directorates, each headed by a Deputy Director-General, with 30 directors assigned specific responsibilities.
Veteran journalist and publisher, Dele Momodu, was named Deputy Director-General of the Media and Communications Directorate, while former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye will head Contact and Mobilisation.
The campaign’s Policy Team will be coordinated by economist and banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, with Professor Mohammed Sagagi and former Central Bank of Nigeria Deputy Governor, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, among those listed to contribute to policy development.

Former Edo State Governor and pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Oyegun, will chair the Campaign Advisory Board.
Atiku said the campaign structure had deliberately been kept lean, with clearly defined responsibilities and accountability, in response to the economic realities confronting Nigerians.
He identified the rising cost of living, unemployment, insecurity and declining purchasing power as key issues the campaign would address.

The ADC candidate said the effectiveness of the campaign would be measured by how clearly it responds to these concerns and how effectively its structures translate its strategies into action.
The unveiling comes as political parties and presidential candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 general election, with the ADC campaign expected to commence its nationwide organisational and mobilisation activities ahead of the formal campaign period.
