Moghalu Rejects Atiku’s Appointment, Says He Wasn’t Consulted

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has rejected his inclusion in the policy team of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, saying he was neither consulted nor gave his consent.

Moghalu made his position known on Thursday, September 24, 2026, shortly after Atiku’s campaign unveiled its structure for the 2027 presidential election.

In the campaign structure announced by Atiku’s media aide, Phrank Shaibu, Moghalu was listed as a member of the policy team headed by economist and banker, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen. The team is expected to develop policy responses to issues confronting Nigerians.
However, reacting to the announcement, Moghalu said he was surprised to see his name included in the campaign structure.
“For the record, I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team,” he said.
He further clarified that he was not a member of Atiku’s policy team, either officially or unofficially, and had not agreed to serve in an advisory capacity.
Moghalu also disclosed that he had quit partisan politics in Nigeria since 2022 and maintained that he was neither a member nor sympathiser of any political party.

He said his current engagements include serving as President of IGET Africa, a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy, and Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm.
While stressing his continued commitment to Nigeria, Moghalu said such commitment did not require partisan alignment.
“I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship,” he said.
His rejection came hours after Atiku unveiled a campaign council headed by Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as chairman, with former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as deputy chairman and Senator Austin Akobundu as Director-General and Campaign Manager.
