President Bola Tinubu on Monday met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at the inauguration of Hope Uzodinma as the Governor of Imo for his second term in office.
The ceremony took place at the Dan Anyiam stadium in Owerri, the state capital.
Tinubu and Obasanjo were invited to the ceremony by Uzodinma.
During the ceremony, the duo exchanged pleasantries and shook hands.
It was the first time Tinubu and Obasanjo will be meeting after the 2023 elections.
In August 2022, Tinubu, then presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), met with Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
The agenda of the meeting was unclear but it was speculated that it could be about the presidential bid of Tinubu.
Obasanjo did not support the presidential bid of Tinubu. The former president supported Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party (LP).
Tinubu and Obasanjo are from the south-west geo-political zone of the country. But in the political arena they are not friends as they tend to exhibit differing political preferences.
Obasanjo was president from 1999 to 2007.
During that period, Tinubu was the governor of Lagos. He created 37 Local Council Development Areas. But Obasanjo refused to recognize them and seized the Local Government allocation meant for Lagos state on account of that for a very long time.
